1-54 African Contemporary African Art Fair, London
For 1-54 Contemporary Art Fair, London, Rele is delighted to be presenting works by
Ayobami Ogungbe, Marcellina Akpojotor, Salomon Moneyang, Kaleab Abate, and
Dr Hassan Aliyu five distinct voices whose practices converge in their exploration of
memory, identity, and belonging.
Ayobami Ogungbe bridges craft traditions with contemporary image-making,
constructing visual tapestries that speak to community, memory, and transformation.
Marcellina Akpojotor’s richly textured fabric collages weave narratives of
womanhood, lineage, and everyday life, celebrating resilience across generations.
Salomon Moneyang brings intimacy and tenderness into focus, using painting to
capture memory, domestic space, and emotional resonance. Kaleab Abate draws on
his Ethiopian roots and diasporic experience, merging abstraction and figuration in
meditations on migration and cultural identity. Dr. Hassan Aliyu engages politics,
spirituality, and history in layered works that reflect on the complexities of heritage and
present-day realities.
Together, these artists highlight the breadth of contemporary African art, offering
powerful reflections on resilience, culture, and the intertwining of personal histories
with collective narratives.
