At Once, Then Again: Selections from Practice: Lagos

Rele Gallery Lagos is pleased to present At Once, Then Again: Selections from Practice, a group exhibition featuring 10 alumni artists of the Rele Arts Foundation bootcamp and residency programme.  The exhibition—featuring works by Odinakachi Okoroafor, James Adebayo, Laju Sholola, OC George, Nwakuso Edozien, Anyacho Chijioke, Samuel Nnorom, Yewande Ambeke, Talut Kareem and Valerie Fab-Uche—commemorates the fifth year of the annual residency programme.

The Young Contemporaries residency programme held annually in Ekiti state is dedicated to guiding and refining the work of early-career artists through the provision of a space for dedicated practice and rigorous mentoring. Begun in 2019, the residency is specially designed to educate emerging artists on critical thinking and research as well as providing the necessary resources for artistic growth.

Presenting artists working across various mediums, this exhibition unveils an anthology of artistic evolution, highlighting the exciting work being done by an emerging generation of artists. Ranging from intimate portraits in tea and charcoal to sprawling textile installations, the works on view offer varying themes and stylistic approaches indicating a continuous investigation into form and material by the selected artists — a testament to the residency as a crucible of artistic germination.

At Once, Then Again: Selections from Practice encapsulates not only the celebration of five years of the Young Contemporaries residency but also the perpetuity of artistic growth and evolution. Join us in commemorating a legacy of creativity, care and continued support.

In collaboration with the The Zeebah Foundation, a portion of the sales proceeds will be donated to the Foundation, supporting their unwavering dedication to providing care and services to children on the autism spectrum.
